Small on purpose. Growing with care.
Familiar Primary Care is being built carefully, one patient and one thoughtful decision at a time. At launch, the practice will be intentionally lean, virtual-first and operated entirely by me, Jennifer Banks, ARNP.
That means Familiar may work a little differently from the primary care offices you’re used to.
You are not a renovation project
I believe every person is already worthy of thoughtful, respectful healthcare exactly as they are. You do not need to become smaller, younger, more productive or more socially acceptable to deserve excellent care.
There is a growing amount of health content online built around convincing people that their bodies are problems to solve. Familiar Primary Care is not interested in selling fear, shame or the promise of eternal youth. I will not treat aging as a disease or assume that weight loss is the answer to every concern.
That does not mean ignoring symptoms, dismissing your goals or pretending that health never changes. It means approaching those changes with curiosity, evidence and shared decision-making—not shame. My job is to help you understand and care for the body you live in, not pressure you to replace it with somebody else’s idea of an improved version.
More time for your care
Appointments will generally be scheduled for 30 or 60 minutes, depending on what we need to accomplish. Longer visits give us room to discuss your concerns, understand the larger picture and make decisions together without trying to squeeze everything into a few hurried minutes.
Familiar will maintain a smaller patient panel than a traditional primary care practice. The goal is to preserve time for thoughtful visits, follow-up and the work that happens between appointments.
You’ll be hearing directly from me
At first, I’ll be the clinician, scheduler, form-reader, portal-answerer and person figuring out why the fax machine has developed an attitude.
You may hear directly from me about appointments, records, forms or other administrative details. There will not initially be a receptionist or dedicated support staff, so nonurgent administrative requests may take a little time. Your patience while I build sustainable systems is genuinely appreciated.
Starting lean is intentional
Familiar will begin with the services and tools needed to provide safe, evidence-based primary care without adding unnecessary overhead. Most care will happen virtually, with limited in-person appointments available in Spokane when an examination, vital signs or an injection is needed.
Additional appointment availability, insurance plans, services and support staff may be added gradually as the practice grows. I would rather build each part carefully than grow quickly at the expense of patient care.
What will not change
Starting small does not mean lowering the standard of care. Familiar is committed to thoughtful, evidence-based medicine; clear communication; appropriate follow-up; privacy; accessibility; and knowing when you need a higher level of care or an in-person evaluation.
Thank you for considering a growing practice and for helping build a different kind of primary care—one that has time to become familiar.
